OCS International Symposium 2024

Introduction 

The Principles of Good Regulation are the cornerstone of achieving international competitiveness. They entail 3 core attributes: regulatory impact assessment for regulatory proposals, stakeholder engagement, and periodic review of regulatory stock. When a country’s system of law is administered according to these principles, people and businesses will be less burdened by unnecessary compliance costs or anachronistic regulations. In addition, the introduction of new regulations will be more focused on solving economic and societal problems, ensuring the continuation of economic growth and sustainable social development, resulting in long-term prosperity and well-being of the people.

Since 2022, Office of the Council of State (OCS) has been Thailand’s representative in the OECD Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC). This cooperation with the OECD Secretariat and its member countries, including the adherence to the 2012 Recommendation of the Council on Regulatory Policy and Governance, allows Thailand to maintain and improve the quality of laws and regulations with reference to the internationally accepted standards. In addition, since the beginning of 2024, OCS has become a bureau member of the ASEAN-OECD Good Regulatory Practice Network (GRPN). This regional leadership role demonstrates Thailand’s commitment to support the international regulatory cooperation as well as to enhance international competitiveness of the Southeast Asian region relative to other regional blocks.

To this end, OCS is hosting the 2024 International Symposium, entitled “Competitive Thailand, Growing Sustainably Together” to further affirm the mission to create the regulatory landscape that becomes an important part of the conducing infrastructure for future growths in a sustainable manner, particularly, in an era of paradigmatic technological change and other transboundary economic and social transformations.
